Yoga is a discipline that brings body, mind, and soul together. Its purpose is to reduce suffering, and it was developed in ancient India thousands of years ago. Practices include:
- Yama - Ethics reduce anxiety, self-deception, greed, anger and jealousy.
- Niyama - Personal observances create discipline, self-control and serenity.
- Āsana - Poses connect the mind with the body and still the mind.
- Prāṇāyāma - Concentration on the breath brings you to the present moment.
- Pratyāhāra - Withdrawal of the senses creates inner awareness.
- Dhāraṇā - Concentration on a single point creates focus and clarity.
- Dhyāna - Meditation creates a continuous flow of concentration.
- Samādhi - A state of blissful peace and being one with the universe.
