Yoga

Yoga is a discipline that brings body, mind, and soul together. Its purpose is to reduce suffering, and it was developed in ancient India thousands of years ago. Practices include:

  • Yama - Ethics reduce anxiety, self-deception, greed, anger and jealousy.
  • Niyama - Personal observances create discipline, self-control and serenity.
  • Āsana - Poses connect the mind with the body and still the mind.
  • Prāṇāyāma - Concentration on the breath brings you to the present moment.
  • Pratyāhāra - Withdrawal of the senses creates inner awareness.
  • Dhāraṇā - Concentration on a single point creates focus and clarity.
  • Dhyāna - Meditation creates a continuous flow of concentration.
  • Samādhi - A state of blissful peace and being one with the universe.

It is also a natural way to heal body and mind (1, 2, 3).
